How to remove Quickstart programs
Quickstart is a software application feature in Windows that allows part of a program to load when your computer boots up. By loading important parts of an application when your system turns on, Quickstart allows the full application to load significantly faster when you want to access it. Quickstart is often used with programs that are frequently loaded (such as Microsoft® Word or Excel).
While Quickstart can be a useful feature, it can also tax your system's memory. If you need to free up additional memory in your system, here's how to disable programs from Quickstarting.
- Go to your Windows Desktop and click on My Computer. Select your hard drive, usually known as C:, by double clicking it.
- Navigate to the folder: G:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.
- Look through the programs listed within the folder. Find the ones you'd like removed from startup.
- Right click on the program to be removed, and select Delete.
- Confirm the delete action when prompted with the question, "Are you sure you want to remove?" Repeat this process for all the programs that you want removed from startup.
- Quickstart programs can reappear after this process. They can sometimes be permanently deleted by reinstalling the software they're associated with or by using the Add or Remove Programs utility in the Control Panel.
By disabling Quickstart and freeing up your system's memory for other important functions, you may be able to see a performance increase.
